Pending Bank Liquidity Rules May Cool Demand for Municipal Bonds

 

If bank regulators adopt the proposed rules (Sept. 3 meeting) excluding municipal bonds from “high-quality” assets for liquidity purposes, demand may cool for municipal bonds.  The proposed rules that would initially apply to banks with more than $250 billion in assets may limit new purchases of munis.
