Michigan School Districts: Enrollment Declines Hurts Finances and Credit Ratings

 

Enrollment declines at Michigan school districts is having a negative impact upon school finances.  In an article in The Bond Buyer, Moody’s is reported to have downgraded 38 of the 225 school districts in Michigan.

Declining enrollment, increasing retirement costs and competition from charter schools all are contributing to the fiscal pressures.
