Chicago Retiree Healthcare: Court Decision Expected Soon

 

Retirees are challenging Mayor Emanuel’s efforts to phase out most retiree healthcare subsidies (Other Post-Employment Benefits “OPEB”).  These subsidies cost the City approximately $100 million annually.

Retirees contend that these subsidies are protected by the State’s Constitution.  The City contends that the subsidies are structured in a way that does not obligate the City.
