New Mexico Governor Vetoes Education Funding

New Mexico Governor Martinez has vetoed all education funding and the legislature cannot override her veto.  The Washington Post article states that Governor Martinez took the action to protest legislative tax increases and spending.  There appears to be some tit-for-tat going on as the Governor complained in her veto message that the state Senate has not scheduled a hearing for nominations she has made.

Albuquerque public schools have decided to eliminate sports programs in every middle school.

According to the Washington Post article, Governor Martinez wants to call a special session to find a solution.  Democratic leaders in the legislature are planning on suing the Governor over the veto.
